Easy Gingerbread House Decor
Here at Berry and Pine, I’ve been attacking my craft stash. I love picking up dollar store items that I *might* use one day and these little doll houses were sitting on top of a box I was unpacking.
For this easy Christmas craft, you’re going to need a miniature doll house. I’m using the half house from the Dollar Tree, but you can raid the thrift store for one.
Today’s easy Christmas DIY is done in stages and has some time for you to do wait on paint to dry. While you’re waiting, come visit Berry and Pine on Facebook.

Ways to Decorate with This Gingerbread Decor
I mentioned in another craft that I’m going to be doing a gingerbread-themed Christmas, so this is going on the bottom of my larger tiered tray in there. That said, you could decorate with this in a few ways.
If you have a cake platter (or a plate + a candle holder glued on), place a mini gingerbread house in the center of it. Add bottle brush trees behind (to hide the open back), some miniatures in front, and fill the plate with some faux snow.
Another way to use this mini house is to glue it together with another mini house to create a full piece. Glue on a candle plate to the top, add some greenery at the join, and place an LED candle a top for a warm, inviting decor piece.

Materials Needed for This Christmas DIY
Below are the materials I used but check your stash to see what you can use up. If your craft room is anything like mine, it might be overflowing with possibilities.
NOTE: I believe this brown acrylic paint is honestly the best for gingerbread anything. It’s a warm brown but is light enough to layer without ending up to dark and you don’t have to mix it with anything at all.
- miniature doll house (half) painted with a base white
- brown paint, a foam brush, and a small paintbrush for details
- white acrylic paint pen
- optional, red paint for the door
- clear sealant
How to Make This Dollar Tree Christmas DIY
Below is the step by step tutorial with a couple of images to guide you. If you’d prefer to print this craft, please scroll down.
First, make sure to base coat the entire doll house. I primed and sealed with a clear sealant to avoid chipping, as well, but that is optional.
Use the foam brush and the honeycomb paint to fully cover the house. Paint the door red and let dry.
With the acrylic paint pen and small brush, go over all of the raised details visible on the house. You can add whatever you would like, but I just used what they had molded in the plastic.
I also added “frosting” (paint) to the tops of the peaks and used the paint pen to highlight each shingle on the roof. Go over any bare spots in the brown and set the piece aside to dry.
Add one or two coats of sealant to protect the paint and display your mini gingerbread house decor!
